Die Doom Metal-Band SMOULDER hat einen Labeldeal mit Cruz Del Sur Music abgeschlossen. Im Zuge dessen werden die Kanadier ihr Debütalbum “Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring” veröffentlichen. Es folgt der vorjährigen Demo-EP “The Sword Woman” nach, welche in sehr limitierter Zahl veröffenticht wurde. Das wird sich bei “Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring” wohl ändern. Mit “Ilian Of Garathorm” steht nun der Opener des Albums zur Verfügung.
Das Album wurde in den Swift Road Studios in Chicago und im Lincoln County Social Club in Toronto aufgenommen. Mix & Mastering lag in den Händen von Arthur Rizk (SUMERLANDS). Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Michael Whelan (u.a. für SEPULTURA tätig).
Der Album-Titel “Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring” bezog im Übrigen Inspirationen von der Kurzgeschichte “The Greater Conqueror” von Michael Moorcock. “While our lyrics run the gamut of fantasy and touch on stories by authors like Moorcock, Robert E. Howard, George R.R Martin, C.L Moore and others, they are also injected with personal themes and interpretations,” erklärt SMOULDER-Sängerin Sarah Ann. “Fantasy is often derided for being mindless by the uninitiated and it´s quite striking as the story themes are generally much deeper. They run the gamut and are frequently embedded with humanism, spiritualism, philosophy, globalism and the importance of fortitude, empathy, duty and responsibility. These stories can be incredibly empowering.”
