Arjen Anthony Lucassen geht mit AYREON neue Wege. Statt sich wie gehabt der Inspiration aus Wissenschaft und Science Fiction hinzugeben, geht es auf dem neuen Album zurück in düstere Zeiten. Das „Transitus”-Konzept basiert auf einer mit Gothic- und Horror-Elementen angereichten, im Jahr 1884 spielenden Geschichte um Leben, Tod und allerlei übernatürliche Phänomene. Das neue Konzeptalbum wurde am 25. September 2020 über die Mascot Label Group veröffentlicht. Hier findest du unser Review zum Album.
“Transitus” gibt es als 2-CD, auf Doppel-LP in farbigem Vinyl mit Gatefold-Cover, sowie als Earbook mit vier CDs und einer DVD, das neben vielen weiteren Specials einen 5.1-Mix des Albums beinhaltet. Beigegeben ist „Transitus” ein 25-seitiges Comic-Buch aus der Feder des chilenischen Zeichners Felix Vega.

Zu „Transitus“ gibt es bereits einen ausführlichen Trailer. Die Videos zu den ersten Singles “Hopelessly Slipping Away”, “Get Out! Now!” und “This Human Equation” konnte man sich bereits anschauen. Ebenso ein Video zum Song “Walk Of The Town”, der vierten Single zum Doppel-Album. Projekt-Kopf Ajren sagt zum Song: “Here’s the 4th and final lyric (behind-the-scenes) video before the release of Transitus next week: Talk of the Town. I think this is the most Ayreon-ish track on the album. It features Tom Baker, Paul Manzi, Tommy Karevik and Cammie Gilbert on vocals, and the fantastic instrumentalists Juan van Emmerloot, Joost van den Broek, Patty Gurdy, Jeroen Goossens and Ben Mathot. AYREON gehen auf dem Album „Transitus” durch dunkle Zeiten
Arjen Lucassen beschreibt „Transitus” als sein bislang filmischstes und im postiven Sinne ungeheuerlichstes Oeuvre. Er erklärt: „Der Spirit von Progressive Rock besteht darin, zu experimentieren und immer wieder Neuland zu betreten. Genau das hatte ich mit ‘Transitus’ im Sinn. Deshalb ist es anders geworden, als man es von Ayreon bisher kennt – theatralischer und ein bisschen wie ein Musical.”

This album is incredibly diverse so I really couldn’t choose just one track because I wouldn’t want people to get the wrong impression of the overall mood of the album. So we decided to make a video for both an atmospheric track ‘Hopelessly Slipping Away’ and a rocky track ‘Get out! Now!’
Hopelessly Slipping Away’ features Tommy Karevik (KAMELOT) and Cammie Gilbert (OCEANS OF SLUMBER) on vocals. It’s a haunting track with analog synthesizers and violin, and it slowly builds to an epic climax with marching snares. In this video we see the ghost of Daniel (Tommy) hopelessly trying to reach out to his beloved wife Abby (Cammie) who clearly feels his presence but can’t see or hear him.
The track ‘Get Out! Now!’ is a straightforward and energetic rock track with powerful drums, bass, guitars and Hammond organ. It features the illustrious Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER) and Tommy Karevik on vocals, and none other than the legendary JOE SATRIANI plays a blistering guitar solo. In this story Daniel’s intolerant father (Dee) banishes Daniel (Tommy) from his estate for having a forbidden affair with their servant Abby.
